Telford began photographing unique 89 ers in 2004, but it wasn't until a sabbatical from BYU, where he teaches photography in the Visual Arts department, that he was able to photograph full time.

Telford and his wife, Valerie, spent the summer of 2006 driving from Kanab to Garden City, eating in local diners and sleuthing out interesting stories.

They stumbled across people like Wallace Ott, the last living acquaintance of Butch Cassidy.

Telford photographed Ott on his 95th birthday in front of Cassidy's supposed boyhood home in Circleville. Bona is the "mover and a shaker" Telford credits for many photo ideas, as well as a key figure in getting a southern stretch of 89 named as a Heritage Highway.

The black and white panoramic portraits were a bit of a change for Telford, who is known for his work as a color landscape photographer.

He's produced several books about Utah and hopes this exhibit becomes a book as well, though he's yet to find a publisher.

"It's a celebration of the people," he said. "I Masteron Cutting wanted (others) to realize the positive contributions these people have made in a rural area of the state.".
